CFPB Accountability Bill Advances: An Update for Florida Dealers
October 6, 2026
Federal oversight matters to independent dealers, particularly when regulatory decisions affect financing, compliance and the cost of doing business.
In a September 22, 2026 update, NIADA reported that the House Financial Services Committee approved H.R. 10184, the Consumer Financial Protection Accountability and Reform Act, by a 28–21 vote on September 16.
The proposal would place the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s funding under congressional appropriations and revise aspects of its rulemaking, enforcement, supervision and penalties. NIADA identified the legislation as one of its priorities for the 2026 National Policy Conference.
For Florida’s independent dealers, this discussion reinforces the value of having a voice in Washington. Policymakers need to understand how federal requirements affect dealerships, their employees and the customers they serve.
Committee approval is a step in the legislative process; it does not make the proposal law. FIADA encourages members to stay engaged and share the regulatory challenges they encounter in their businesses.
